19 killed, dozens hurt in HK double-decker bus crash

HONG Kong police said today they were investigating a deadly bus accident that left 19 people dead and scores more injured, with the bus driver arrested for unsafe driving.

A press release from Hong Kong authorities today revealed that 18 perished at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the bus was arrested on Saturday evening for risky driving. "He is still being detained for further enquiries".

The bus was traveling from Sha Tin to Tai Po Center in Hong Kong's New Territories when it turned over, shearing off part of its roof, according to news media reports.

Hong Kong's double-decker buses can accommodate around 140 seated and standing passengers, depending upon the model. He also called for action on the issue of Hong Kong drivers working too many hours.
