"They're going to go in the same box on display for sure", Serwa said. Ironically it was Thompson who finished first.
Two Canadians reached the Olympic podium in women's ski cross on February 23 at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang. They're roommates here, they're "Kels" and 'Brit, ' they're almost always together and they both set their alarms for 5 a.m. and headed to the hill together before they won Canada's 25th and 26th medal of these Games.
A Canadian woman has won gold in skicross each time since the sport made its debut in 2010 and Team Canada's grip on the top spot appears to be tightening.
"They blew my mind", said Canadian skicross coach Stanley Hayer.
Phelan, from Mont-Tremblant, Que., was in fourth at one point before making a bold double pass midway down the Phoenix Park course. "We are skicross, we are not there to, 'Please, I'll let you go.' It's the sport". Phelan and Serwa then placed first and second respectively in the semifinals. "To see Brit there, it's the best ever".
Friday's result caps a remarkable run for Canada in ski cross.
However, it was a bad day for fellow Canadian Marielle Thompson, with the reigning Olympic champion crashing out in the first heat.
Thompson had the fastest time in the seeding round but had a slow start in her heat and spun out after the first jump.
Thompson isn't sure if her ski landed on another racer's or if it was the other way around.
"It is very cool", she said.
No biggie. Phelan and Serwa took turns chasing each other down Phoenix Snow Park until there they were standing next to each other on the medal stand each holding one side of the Canadian flag.
Serwa grew up skiing the slopes of Big White. It was Serwa who showed her the ropes.
"She's pretty much taught me everything in skicross and has had no secrets", Phelan said. "All those little things that push you down the hill", she said.Читайте также: United, Delta Airlines join companies cutting ties with NRA
Later, at the press conference, Phelan added: "I'm so thankful for Kelsey in my life".
"It's absolutely fantastic", she said.
"Once we were over the last jump I was like, 'Oh my God,"' Phelan said. "We didn't come out here to participate".
"To do it together is unbelievable". "I knew I was running out of time", she said. And then they fist-bumped.
It's her second straight medal after her silver medal in Sochi. "I think she crossed her tips a little bit".
It's down to the final race at the Olympics for Kelsey Serwa. "Don't listen to me'".
Canada have now equalled their record number of Olympic medals won at a single Winter Games.
Her mom, Terri, got her a rock the shape of an egg so she could travel with it, but when Serwa's bag was stolen, Terri bought the heart-shaped one as a replacement.
"Everything today went ideal", Serwa said. The two wrapped each other in a hug once past the finish line.
Serwa and Phelan were at a World Cup stop when that rock was purchased.
"We are not doing Alpine [skiing]". Her chance to repeat as gold medallist was over in an instant.
"It's always hard to see a teammate go down but when the race is happening you've got to focus on yourself", Phelan said. "But they pick you, right?"При любом использовании материалов сайта и дочерних проектов, гиперссылка на обязательна.
