Cavaliers, Isaiah Thomas take high road after Cleveland experiment didn't work

The Cleveland Cavaliers have landed Utah Jazz guard Rodney Hood and Sacramento Kings veteran guard George Hill as part of a three-team trade two hours before the 2018 National Basketball Association trade deadline.

Whether Thomas turns out to be the sort of influence the Lakers are looking for is unclear. The Cavaliers landed star point guard George Hill from Sacramento, and got more athletic with the additions of Larry Nance Jr. and Rodney Hood.

Gone from the Cavaliers is whiny, defense-challenged Isaiah Thomas, classy center/forward Channing Frye, unreliable guard Derrick Rose, fragile guard Iman Shumpert, under-achieving forward Jae Crowder and steady bench player Dwyane Wade.

But the Cavs kept the Nets pick and they improved the roster.

If Isaiah Thomas had somehow captured his form from previous year, there was a chance to Cavs would have challenged the Lakers.

"Did we think we were going to get this much done?" Taking on another team's bad contract that runs through next season - say, Denver's Kenneth Faried - and a draft pick would have signaled that they believe chasing members of the upcoming free agent class would be futile.

And if all that wasn't enough, the Cavs then dealt Wade to Miami for a protected 2024 second-round pick. If you look at their names, you can tell they should have already won the title, but on the court the situation is different. However, he is shooting career worsts from the field (.361 shooting percentage) and 3-point range (.253).

Isaiah Thomas (right), who was only traded to Cleveland Cavaliers by Boston Celtics last summer, is on the move again. He also held spot-up shooters to less than a point per attempt and would immediately become the best defender on the Cavs against this play type. The trade deadline proved to be quite an event, resulting in a number of moves that could impact the landscape of the league. In the process, they may have given themselves a better shot at keeping the man at the center of it all this summer: LeBron James.

"No resets", Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue said.

Carr was born in Bakersfield, CA, and while the Raiders are moving to Las Vegas soon, he said that he'll always support the Lakers.

This season, Clarkson is averaging 14.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 0.7 steals over 23.7 minutes in 53 games, which includes two starts. The front office made changes that they felt best fit this franchise, and it's time to go to work.

Just like that, the Cavs traded almost half their roster, got substantially younger and more athletic and wedged themselves back into contention to make a fourth straight Finals appearance against Golden State. The Cavs went 7-10 since that day, were blown out four times by 24 or more points, and had at least one contentious, in-house meeting that apparently solved nothing.
