Delta and United join companies cutting ties with NRA

"Usually what happens is that the storm passes, and the NRA counts on that", he told CBS.

The rental-car giant, Enterprise Holdings, said it would end a discount promotion that was available to members of the National Rifle Association. The bank announced that it would not renew a co-branded Visa credit-card with the NRA. A number of companies are sticking by the NRA, at least for now, including FedEx, which has been under activist pressure to end its discount for the NRA for over a year.

First National Bank of Omaha's breakup with the NRA put an end to a card that offered 5% back on gas and sporting goods purchases, according to an NRA blog, which boasted that "every time you pack up and head out on a hunt or to the range.... you're putting money back in your pocket".

But because they follow similar announcements by auto rental giants Avis, Hertz and Enterprise, the Best Western hotel chain, the global insurance company MetLife, and more than a dozen other corporations that used to contract, partner or otherwise affiliate with the NRA, the airline's move is the latest victory for the #BoycottNRA movement - and the latest bad omen for a gun rights lobby that had seemed untouchable less than two weeks ago.

Business and corporate ethics professor at the University of Texas, Timothy Werner, said boycotts rarely harm companies financially, but firms must weigh the social implications of their association with the NRA. "They don't want to risk having people march or boycott".

Adrian Otaegui finishes with a flourish to lead the way in Doha
It promises to be a tight finish over the final two days as there are 33 players within five shots of the lead. Starting at the tenth, the Frilford Heath member picked up shots at his first and second holes.

What has the NRA said?

And the NRA is facing a time-honored traditional protest: the boycott.

In an appearance at a major conservative conference this week, NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre said it was "ridiculous" to use shooting events as a means to advocate gun control.

United chimed in with a similar message, also discontinuing discounted rates for NRA members attending the group's annual meeting. The NRA, like the AARP or AAA, promotes discounts in order to entice potential members to join.

The Hertz Corp. - The rental vehicle company ended its discount program for NRA members.

Trump is said to favour stiffest U.S. steel, aluminium tariffs
The Commerce Department has been urging President Donald Trump to impose tariffs or quotas on imported aluminum and steel. China produces a total of 800 million tonnes of steel each year, equal to about half of global output.

The bank and vehicle rental company were used by the NRA to promote its membership through discounts and bonus deals.

But some are major national and global companies. Spokeswoman Dana Loesch gave a fiery speech at a gathering of right-wing politicians and voters earlier this week, saying the media "love mass shootings".

Hotel chains Best Western and Wyndham, and Symantec Corp, which makes Norton Antivirus software, also stopped offering deals to the gun association's members.

More companies have followed suit, including Enterprise Holdings, which owns major auto rental companies like Alamo and Enterprise, with Hertz soon joining in.

TrueCar, an automobile pricing and information website, said on Friday it was "ending its vehicle buying service relationship" with the the end of this month. None of the other companies immediately responded to media requests for comment. On Tuesday, before it ended its relationship with the NRA, a representative of North American called it a "great program" in an interview with ThinkProgress.
