F1: Vettel praises Ferrari's "attention to detail" with SF71H


Ferrari has unveiled its 2018 Formula One auto - the SF71-H - at an event at its headquarters in Maranello.

No sooner had the covers come off the Mercedes W09, Ferrari were hot on their heels with the officially unveiling of their 2018 challenger - the SF71H.

While Vettel won five races last season, Ferrari struggled on high-speed circuits with long straightaways.

Despite being outclassed by Vettel in each of the past three seasons, Kimi Raikkonen remains the last driver to win a world championship for Ferrari, taking the 2007 title by a single point from then McLaren drivers Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso.

World champion Lewis Hamilton is scheduled to drive the W09 in the afternoon, after the auto is officially unveiled.

"The step that we have done in 2017 was incredible", he said.

The car's livery has less white sections than its predecessors, with Ferrari seemingly veering back towards its traditional red livery, while the SF71H is the first vehicle not to feature Santander as a sponsor, following the Spanish financial giant's decision during past year to pull the plug on their Formula 1 involvement.

"We all like divas, but sometimes she was a bit hard to understand and this is the area where we worked the most, trying to understand and preserve the speed in the auto and find more driveability". The real magic happens underneath from what you can see, but every little detail matters and I think this year's vehicle is a big step from last year's, so let's see how it feels. "With this vehicle, it's designed into it so you shouldn't see it when you're driving".
