Flood watch issued for region


With temps hovering at or around freezing in western and northwestern North Texas (Gainesville, Bowie, Jacksboro, Graham, Eastland and to the west/northwest) by tomorrow morning, any rain that falls could turn into freezing rain. Total ice accumulations of a light glaze up to a tenth of 1 inch are expected, meaning slippery conditions on sidewalks, roads and bridges.

The flood risk begins Wednesday and could last days.

The National Weather service issued a flood watch in effect Thursday evening through Sunday at 7 a.m.

Two twisters struck early Tuesday in a rural area near Joshua, Texas, destroying at least two mobile homes and severely damaging several others.

The Cook County Department of Transportation reported that some roads in the south suburbs were closed because of flooding Tuesday morning.

The weather service forecast posted early Tuesday morning was calling for the possibility of two periods of heavy rain this week.

"It was totally my fault", city Water Department operator Mark Rose said Tuesday.

Showers and some thunderstorms will continue in waves overnight and on Thursday.

"We're looking at moderate to at times heavy rainfall across much of northwest Louisiana really all day Wednesday, and it could continue into Wednesday night and Thursday morning before gradually receding", he said. "A few strong storms can not be ruled out Saturday".
