Going to the Dogs: Angus the Terrier Blocked from Kansas Governor's Race

After reading about teens who recently entered the race, Terran said he read through bylaws on the requirements for Kansas governor and it wasn't written anywhere that a dog couldn't run for office.

The Kansas man, who registered his dog named Angus for governor, said the secretary of state's office has halted the campaign to put his pooch in politics. They told CNN that they were inspired by the six teenagers who intend to run for governor this November.

Kansas election officials on Tuesday barred a dog from running for governor, saying such a candidate would be disqualified even if there are no actual state laws prohibiting the animal from running.

Unfortunately for Angus and his political ambitions, it seems that Kansas isn't exactly ready for a governor of a different species.

Angus' owner and campaign manager, Terran Woolley, told CNN that his dog's decision to run was inspired by headlines about gubernatorial candidates in the race.

That's because Angus is a dog.

A VA spokesman, Curt Cashour, did not immediately respond to requests for comment from Wright Simpson. In a statement initially published on the VA's site, Shulkin said he had "done nothing wrong".

"In Kansas, if you're not a Republican you're not going to win", Woolley said.

Others have seen more success.

A Kansas local filed paperwork this weekend to enter his three-year-old wire terrier, Angus, in the race for governor.

Cries and rants of "MURDERER!" flooded social media, as did shouts of "RACIST!" towards those who agreed with the jury's verdict. Boushie was an Indigenous youth. "I know Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians alike know that we have to do better".

Teens between 16 and 18 years old now make up about a third of the entrants for the race, NPR reported, prompting the introduction of a bill that would bar under 18s from running for state office, although it would not affect the 2018 race.

"I'm glad, I guess, a dog wasn't allowed onto the ballot because that just. makes no sense", he said.

Last week, a House committee voted against Republican state Rep. Kristey Williams' amendment to raise the minimum age to 30.
