The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel says the action might have stemmed from a controversial tweet Nehlen made Friday regarding actress Meghan Markle, who's engaged to Prince Harry. DNA evidence showed that Cheddar Man had brown hair, blue eyes and "dark to black skin".

"You're a sad and sick man with no sense of shame or class", Adams wrote in a tweet addressed to the GOP politician.

'Get a life. And don't go anywhere near MM - she's got more power, strength, honour and compassion in her fingernail than you'll ever know in this lifetime.

"Way above your weight class".

Nehlen tried to quell the outcry with a tweet claiming he used the photo as a joke to protest science-backed articles proving "whites never existed".

On Facebook, he published posts with the hashtag #ShallNotCensor that appeared to allude to Twitter suspending his account.
