"Daily Show" correspondent Michelle Wolf has been tapped to host this year's White House Correspondents Dinner.

The WHCA has a history of pulling talent from The Daily Show to host the event.

Last year's entertainer was Hasan Minhaj.

Host Trevor Noah, Contributor Michelle Wolf and Correspondent Roy Wood Jr., "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah Presents The 2016 Democratic National Convention; Let's Not Get Crazy" speak from the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts on July 26, 2016 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Talev said the dinner "honors the First Amendment and strong, independent journalism", noting that she feels Wolf has embraced these values.

"I'm delighted to announce "Nice Lady" Michelle Wolf as our featured entertainer this year", Talev shared. Former Black Correspondent and host of Comedy Central's The Nightly Show, Larry Wilmore hosted it, as did Conan O'Brien, Seth Meyers, Jimmy Kimmel, and Jay Leno. Meyers famously took the stage at the 2011 correspondents' dinner, aiming several punchlines squarely at Donald Trump, then a guest in the ballroom.

She botched a planned triple lutz/triple toe loop combo, but did add a double toe loop onto her final jump (a triple loop). Thompson, the defending Olympic champion, clipped a ski in the first elimination round and did not finish.

No doubt Wolf will speak comic truths to power, but whether power - President Trump - will be in the house is a different matter.

"I do have a theory on why Hillary lost: I think it's cause no one likes her", Wolf joked in her HBO special. We're never going to have a nice lady run for president.

Headlining the dinner has always been a challenge for comics, but it may be even more so with Trump in the White House. She's not the first Daily Show regular to follow the president on the dais. "I realized it's easier to become president than it is to become Miss America", she said on a September 2017 episode about the pageant's regulations. It's reminiscent of when the Dinner brought in Cecily Strong of Saturday Night Live, who had connections to journalism through her family and understood the responsibility more than most.

The annual dinner is traditionally attended by the president and first lady, but the Trumps skipped the event previous year and haven't committed to the 2018 version.
