Mobile US notches another strong quarter

T-Mobile added 1.9 million new connections in Q4 2017 and 5.7 million in 2017, thanks to its cost effective data plans and marketing campaigns to beat Verizon, Sprint and AT&T in the USA wireless market.

Adjusted EBITDA of the telecom operator was $2.7 billion in Q4 2017 and $11.2 billion in 2017.

Of revenue that rose 5.1% to a record $10.76B, service revenues increased 7.1% to a best-ever $7.76B. Branded postpaid net adds were 1.1M; branded postpaid phone net adds came to 891,000.

The increase in adjusted EBITDA to $2.7 billion in Q4 2017 and to $11.2 billion in 2017 was due to strong cost performance.

Free cash flow, meanwhile, jumped by more than 50 percent year-over-year to $1.1 billion.

John Legere, T-Mobile CEO, said in a statement that the company "made incredible progress in 2017 building out our network and retail footprint to set ourselves up for future growth". The total base reached 72.585 million customers. A couple of weeks ago, Opensignal released its "State of Mobile Networks: USA" report for January with T-Mobile nearly taking a clean sweep of the awards for network performance.

For the full calendar year, T-Mobile officials touted the addition of more than 5 million customers for the fourth consecutive year in 2017, including 3.6 million net postpaid customers.

-T-Mobile US is "off to a running start" on its 600 MHz deployment, Legere said, and covers 586 cities and towns in 28 states; its geographic range is 300,000 square miles, he addded. Two 600 MHz compatible devices were available for the 2017 holiday season; a dozen compatible smartphones will be rolled out this year.

Net income grew YoY, too, to finish at $2.7 billion, which T-Mobile attributes to factors like the Tax Cuts Jobs Act and after-tax spectrum gains.

-Revenue (Q4): $10.76 Bln vs. $10.23 Bln past year.

AT&T and Verizon have already announced their 5G network plans for the current year by focusing on fixed wireless networks and mobile Internet.
