Police file complaint against quack doctor after infecting 33 with HIV

A health camp organised a year ago in the area had revealed the unusually high number of HIV positive cases and when the reason came to light, the health department of the UP government organised three camps in which people were screened, counseled and if possible, offered treatment. The health check-up camp was held in Unnao's Bangarmau.

At least 33 people in northern India have been infected with HIV after a quack doctor used contaminated syringes and needles to administer injections. The case has been reported from Uttar Pradesh's Unnao. On further medical tests, they were found HIV positive. "So we're mapping truck drivers who come there and offer treatment to them", Singh said. Reacting to the reports of 40 positive cases of HIV, the medical superintendent said that the concerned authorities have been alerted a future course of action is being designed. "During another screening in November, another 13 cases were reported from the same place", Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr SP Chaudhary said.
