South Africa's ANC executives to decide on President Jacob Zuma's future


The Guptas and Mr Zuma deny any wrongdoing but the allegations will not go away.

The party's powerful 107-member national executive committee (NEC) were called to a hotel outside Pretoria for a meeting scheduled to start at 2:00pm (1200 GMT). Other options for his removal include impeachment proceedings in parliament or a vote on an opposition-sponsored motion of no confidence that is scheduled for February 22.

Criticizing ZumaRamaphosa, one of the richest black South Africans, has had a hard relationship with Zuma since he left his business career and returned to full-time politics five years ago, and became deputy president in 2014. Ramaphosa also led South Africa's delegation to the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland last month, mixing with heads of state and trying to assure investors that the country is emerging from the turmoil that briefly sent it into recession a year ago.

In 1997, he became the deputy president of the ruling ANC, and was then named as South Africa's deputy president in 1999.
