Tami Nadu: Alliance with Rajinikanth unlikely as of now, says Kamal Haasan

There had been reports that the two actors, who are immensely influential in the south, could form an alliance to strengthen their political parties, but Hassan seems to have some reservations.

Speaking at the India Conference 2018, a student-run annual conference held at Harvard University, Kamal Haasan explained his vision and why he should be called a polity-culturist, instead of a politician.

"I am announcing a plan of adopting a village in every district of Tail Nadu..." Haasan has been quite open about his aversion to "saffron", representing the BJP, and while making an address at the famous Harvard University in the United States, hinted that an alliance with Rajinikanth would be unlikely if "his colour" was saffron.

But, he quickly referred to the stark differences between them - on religion and on "saffron", which was interpreted as Rajinikanth's inclination towards the BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party).

The entry of actors Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth into politics has led to a lot of speculations about the course they will take given that the development has come at a time of political instability in the state.

"If this is the route he (Rajini) is going to take and if the hue he is going to acquire is to be saffron, then I can't see a clear understanding". In response to a question, he also hinted that an alliance with Rajinikanth is unlikely "if his colour is saffron".

"If there is no majority, its the people's verdict".

"The reason I have started a new political party itself shows that I want to walk with the people, not the politicians", he said. Haasan said Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party head Arvind Kejriwal had met him in Chennai and offered an alliance with his party.
