WCSD monitoring the possibility of school walkouts

All of the students who participated in the walkout Wednesday said they were prompted by daily fears that violence might break out at their school.

"On the afternoon of February 14, 17 people lost their lives to an intruder at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla".

He and other students from West Boca High walked out of their school campus to show solidarity with their neighboring peers, some of whom had just embarked on a lobbying trip to Tallahassee.

They held a moment of silence for lost lives and shouted chants like "we are the future" and "we are students, we are victims, we are change".

"There are two things that need extra help here, mental health issues and more gun control", said one student during the group's remarks.

In some cases in South Florida, schools let their students out early to facilitate their right to protest.

Students are now calling on each other to become politically active to get the change they desire.

On March 24, kids and families will hit the streets of Washington D.C.to demand the end of gun violence and mass shootings in schools through a protest called March For Our Lives.

"We want to make some noise and make our voices heard". The national initiative was sparked by the Parkland, Florida, school shooting last week that left 17 dead.
