Wet weekend ahead; flood watch issued for part of state


An extended period of rain is on the way for the weekend and a Flood Watch will be in effect from 9 am this morning through Sunday.

The NWS projects 2 to 4 inches of rain for most of Georgia this weekend, and because the water level in rivers and creeks remain high from recent rain, flooding is a possibility.

Areas south of the Flood Watch will average 1"-3" of rain between Friday evening and the end of the weekend. There should be a lull in the rain before more arrives for Saturday evening. Once it starts, it only eases temporarily from time to time until the cold front sweeps through eventually Sunday. While "major" river flooding is not expected, some minor flooding is possible.
