WhatsApp on Friday enabled an option to make payments through the app using the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) for select users.

Previous year it was learned that WhatsApp would try in India a contactless payment service that would allow using the cell phone to send money to users.

Users must then configure the feature by first verifying their phone number via SMS and choosing a bank. India is WhatsApp's largest market with over 200 million users active daily users.

Jammu woman dies in shelling as Pak violates ceasefire again
At least 10 Pakistani soldiers and 9 Indians have died in ceasefire violations on the LoC this year, Hindustan Times reported. Pakistan army violated the ceasefire again and the incident took place at 10:35 PM, yesterday night.

WhatsApp is preparing to open its payment platform to the public in India, following a brief closed cabinet testing period, it has been revealed. Introducing a person-to-person payment feature for all of them gives the messaging application an advantage from the get-go over other digital transaction applications. Notably, you will be asked to create an authentication pin if you haven't yet used the UPI payments platform.

Tapping on "Payment" takes you to the linking of your UPI account.

For now, the feature is only available for testers and is expected to become official by the end of this month.

However, WhatsApp's support for payments is highly anticipated because of the app's huge popularity among Indian users.

Moreover, the WhatsApp payments feature seems to be coming exclusively to India.

Do you think WhatsApp will launch Payments outside of India? If you haven't made a UPI account earlier, that will have to be done on the UPI app or on the bank's website. The latest option has been seen on WhatsApp's beta version 2.18.39, reported WABetaInfo. This will allow users to post stickers suiting their moods instead of only emojis.
