White House 'knew of Trump aide Rob Porter's domestic abuse'

In a year where the Violence Against Women Act is to be reauthorized, the White House needs to be reinforcing the message that freedom from domestic violence is a human right and of public concern.

According to the Post, Corbett spoke to reporters a week before allegations against White House staff secretary Rob Porter surfaced, leading to his resignation. "He says he's innocent, and I think you have to remember that". Kelly also said Trump had since "evolved" on the issue. "He says it didn't happen. And look, you have to look at him also".

Porter has denied the allegations, but resigned this week.

Speechwriter David Sorensen resigned on Friday after the White House learned of the allegations against him.

The two sources with knowledge of the decision insisted that Carroll's departure was in the works before Porter's resignation earlier this week.

Catastrophe actor Rob Delaney's son, 2, dies after cancer battle
The actor shared the sad news on Facebook in a heart-wrenching post, revealing his son passed away last month. Along with Delaney, Henry is survived by his older brothers, aged six and five, and his mother, Leah.

She said she shared the information with the Federal Bureau of Investigation last fall while it was conducting a background check on Sorensen, who had once been an adviser to Maine Gov. Paul LePage. Sorensen denied Corbett's account, and insisted that she was the abuser.

Ex-wife Jessica Corbett said she feared for her life and said Sorensen had driven a vehicle over her foot, extinguished a cigarette on her hand, and threw her toward a wall, The Post reported.

In another incident, Corbett allegedly grabbed the steering wheel as Sorensen drove on a highway and punched him in the face during an argument. "[He's] a man of true integrity and honor and I can't say enough good things about him", said Kelly.

White House counsel Don McGahn and Chief of Staff John Kelly have known of the allegations for months.

"A lot of us could have done better", Mr Shah told reporters in a rare show of contrition from the Trump White House.

By Thursday morning, Porter had cleaned out his desk near the Oval Office, where he supervised the flow of paperwork to the president.

Trump signs budget bill to reopen government
She said she wanted an assurance from Ryan that he would take up the issue of immigration in the coming weeks. If passed early Friday, the bill would then head to the House, where the deal's fate is far from certain.

In November, the White House heard back from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Porter has denied the allegations against him saying, in a statement that, "These outrageous allegations are simply false".

Trump said he found out about the allegations recently, and was "surprised" by them. "And certainly he's also very sad".

"We hope he has a wonderful career, and hopefully he will have a great career ahead of him".

The president did not mention or sympathize the two former spouses, but stressed the presumption of innocence. "Is there any other crime where there could be the explanation the reason why we should not pay attention to the transgression is because they're good at something?"

When the media first reported on Porter's misdeeds, Chief of Staff John Kelly gave Porter a glowing review.
