A 14-year-old girl was taken into custody following a threat made to Northwest High School.

A news release from the St. Vrain Valley School District late Thursday stated that the student was charged with "causing an interference" following an investigation by the police department.

Principal Jason A. Chew said in a letter to the community that the administration became aware of the threat at about 1:30 p.m. and it was immediately investigated by local authorities.

Security was increased at Northwest. Police contacted district security and worked together to increase security at the school Thursday morning as a precaution.

Wichita Northwest High School and Wichita Police are investigating a threat that was posted to social media Wednesday night.

Wichita Police Department Public Information Officer Charlie Davidson says no arrests have been made. Police said a student overheard a threat from a third party and then posted it on the app.

The Twitter account to which the threat was posted has been suspended.
