Amazon Recalls Six AmazonBasics Power Banks

The recall will be carried out in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and will be focused on six models of Amazon's house-brand power banks sold over a almost three-year period.

You might want to pay attention if you purchased an AmazonBasics power bank over the last couple of years.

Manufactured in China, the recall involves six versions of lithium-ion battery chargers/power banks, which were sold with or without a USB charger cable and a carry pouch.

The power banks, used to charge smartphones and other gadgets on the go, were sold at Amazon.com, Amazon book stores and Amazon pop-up shops between December 2014 and July 2017. Look for one of the following product ID numbers printed on the back: B00LRK8EVO, B00LRK8HJ8, B00LRK8I7O, B00LRK8IV0, B00LRK8JDC, and B00ZQ4JQAA. The notice also mentions that around 260,000 units are affected.

All customers who purchased one of the recalled devices are being contacted by email directly by Amazon.

In an advisory from the United States Consumer Product Safety commission, end users are asked to "immediately unplug and stop using the recalled power banks and contact Amazon for instructions on how to return the unit and receive a full refund". It has already removed listings for these models from its website.
