Amazon Xiaomi Redmi 5 sale in India today


The Xiaomi Redmi 5 could officially be unveiled in India today at 3 PM after the company all but confirmed the launch via a tweet on 13 March. The company has already revealed that the yet to be launched smartphone will be exclusively available on Amazon.

Xiaomi has been teasing the upcoming device for quite some time using the hashtag #CompactPowerhouse on its social media channels.

At the time of launch, the China-based company had announced that the Redmi 5A 2GB RAM model will be available at a discounted price for Rs. 4,999 for the first 5 million units. The Redmi 4 was introduced in three RAM and storage variants: 2GB/16GB, 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB for a price of Rs 6,999, Rs 8,999 and Rs 10,999 respectively.

The other reason for such a keen interest in these polls is that both seats in Uttar Pradesh are prestige battles. The voter turnout was 47.45 per cent in Gorakhpur and 37.39 per cent in Phulpur in Sunday's polling.

The Chinese smartphone maker has issued a statement saying, "In order to restrict reselling, we have made a decision to remove COD payment option for the upcoming sales of Redmi Note 5 Pro on and Flipkart (Only for initial few sales)". Alternatively, you can also watch the live stream on Xiaomi's official website, where it is now running a countdown for the launch event. The phone sports a 5.7-inch HD+ (720x1440 pixels) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and 282ppi pixel density.

Redmi Note 5 is in 3 GB RAM with 32 Gb storage and 4 GB RAM with 64 GB storage variants. The smartphone comes with a microSD card facilitating expandable storage.

The Redmi 5 will most likely be positioned in the affordable price segment, below its elder sibling, the Redmi Note 5.

Redmi Note 5 Pro runs on MIUI 9 which is based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat and powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor coupled with 4GB/6GB RAM.

On the photography front, the Redmi 5 features a 12MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF and an LED flash. The front-snapper also features the company's proprietary Beautify 3.0. In a surprise move, the smartphone manufacturer has chose to update all the phones including those that got released four years ago. There's a 5MP selfie camera on the front which now comes with a "soft light" flash for better low light selfies.
