"We are committed to quality journalism from trusted sources and allowing magazines to keep producing beautifully designed and engaging stories for users", Cue said in a statement announcing the deal. Details of how much Apple is buying Texture for remain undisclosed. Within its large catalog, the app curates magazine articles based on the user's interests. Magazines carried on Texture include GQ, National Geographic, Vanity Fair, Wired and The Atlantic. The segment has been one of its fastest-growing across all its revenue streams; the services segment revenue grew 18 percent in the company's most recent quarter compared with the same period previous year, only behind the "other devices" segment - which includes Apple Watch, AirPods, and Apple TV - at 36 percent. Apple's long term plans for the service are not yet known.
It has its roots in a 2009 joint venture between Time Inc, Condé Nast, Meredith, Hearst, and News Corp and was launched in 2012 as Next Issue Media.

At that point, we should have more information both as to the intentions of the company with the service as well as the future of the application as it now stands. While the Texture app will likely remain the way it is into the near future, Apple does have a track record of scaling back and then discontinuing acquisitions after they've integrated the technology into their own service.
