Bolton, spinners set up Australia's win over India

Bolton completed her 12th ODI fifty in the 20th over and despite losing Lanning to a run out dismissal, she continued to remain solid and saw Australia through the chase in 32.1 overs and in the process also completed a fine century.

Vadodara: Opener Nicole Bolton scored a hundred as the Australian women's cricket team defeated India by eight wickets in the first match of the three-game ODI series here on Monday.

India would have been bowled out for far less if it was not for the 76-run partnership between Sushma Verma (41, 71b, 3×4) and Pooja Vastrakar (51, 56b, 7×4, 1×6) for the eighth wicket, helping them muster 200 in 50 overs.

Ronaldo's brace gives Madrid victory over Eibar
Cristiano Ronaldo netted twice for Los Blancos to secure a 2-1 victory and three LaLiga points to add to their tally. Five minutes into the second half, Ivan Ramis drew level for Eibar with a great header off a corner by Pedro Leon.

Set a paltry target of 201, the visitors rode on a determined knock by Bolton to take a 1-0 in the three-match series.

"Today everyone was getting out to big shots which wasn't necessary because there was moisture in the wicket and the plan was that we would play carefully in the initial 10 overs", said Kaur. "All the batters in our team are capable of scoring 100+ and everyone's wicket is important and if we continue to throw away wickets like this, it will become very hard". "Obviously, we run through the same people such as Raj [Mithali Raj] and Kaur [Harmanpreet Kaur] and obviously the last time that we played them, it didn't end so well in that kind of sense, so yeah, I thought we have really done the planning well and should the same situation arise, I think we are ready for it", Schutt told reporters here.

Amanda Jade-Wellington and Jess Jonassen were immensely successful, picking up seven wickets between them, but the Indian bowlers didn't have such luck with Shikha Pandey the only one to take a wicket, with one run-out.

With the top order failing, the lower order stood up. "We didn't bowl according to the field". We are expecting more good performances from her.

Batting only for the third time in global cricket, Vastrakar's 51-ball 50 featured seven fours and a six that lent credence to her established pinch-hitting prowess in the domestic circuit. With skipper Harmanpreet Singh falling to Alyssa Healys work behind the stumps off Megan Schutts bowling an over later, hosts India slumped to 87 for five. Having come in at No. 9, she capitalised on the two reprieves - dropped on 14 by Lanning at mid-off and on 19 by Perry at midwicket - and lofted left-arm spinner Jonassen over the covers, drove Shutt and Perry straight down the track, and launched Gardner for six over the mid-wicket fence with a slog sweep.

Jones, reportedly earning £750,000-a-year, reined back from criticising the Premiership, where tries are often easy to come by. We got a lot of good opportunities which we weren't able to finish, but there's lots to be happy with.
