EagleVail's Shiffrin claims second-straight overall World Cup title

Shiffrin is going after her fifth slalom crystal globe in six years.

Shiffrin had to settle for fourth in her favoured slalom in South Korea.

Shiffrin finished a further 0.08 seconds behind in third place.

Shiffrin, with 41 World Cup wins to her name - 10 of them this season - is already assured the slalom title while in the giant slalom standings she is lying 81 points adrift of Rebensburg and 32 behind Tessa Worley ahead of next week's World Cup finals in Are, Sweden.

Out of control: the Earth will collapse toxic space station
Predicting where any debris could hit is next to impossible, according to Harvard University astrophysicist Jonathan McDowell . For now, ground stations are able to track Tiangong-1 as it speeds along at 16,000 miles an hour some 180 miles above Earth .

Shiffrin came into Friday's race, her first since winning the gold medal in giant slalom and silver in alpine combined at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, with a 561-point lead over Switzerland's Wendy Holdener, who finished 14th Friday.

She racked up a personal best 10 World Cup wins this season, but they all came in a relatively short 46-day spell between November 25 and January 9.

Holdener has never won a World Cup slalom but does have 16 podium finishes, including 12 in races won by Shiffrin.

Two-time Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin can clinch her second overall world cup title with strong performances this week in Ofterschwang, Germany.

"Brad and the coaching staff laid out a great game plan - just really pressure guys, make them uncomfortable as best we could". Fultz, meanwhile, has been beset by a shoulder injury and has played a grand total of four games this season for the Sixers.

Shiffrin, 22, becomes only the second American female skier to win multiple overall titles. Her last race was at age 26. She holds a 175-point lead over Petra Vlhova of Slovakia with two races left in the season.

Attention will now turn to a slalom race tomorrow.

Up next, the women compete in a slalom Saturday in Ofterschwang.
