The report said Samsung was experimenting with in-display fingerprint technology but that the company wouldn't be ready to release it on the S9 range, and that's exactly what happened. The latest Galaxy S9 features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and a new Intelligent Scan functionality that combines data from the facial recognition and iris scanner to recognize users.

There have been rumours and leaks for some time now that have suggested the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 would be the company's first to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Starting at now, Samsung Turkey has uncovered arranged dispatch dates of Android Oreo to Galaxy Note 8 and some other premium models already launched. A similar prediction was made for the Galaxy S9 by KGI in August (which was accurate) but it claimed then that the Galaxy Note 9 would get it. Samsung is said to have already tested ultrasonic and optical solutions, but neither have met the company's standards.

It is unclear when Samsung will commercialize the new technology. Instead, it will introduce new products and technologies when they are ready. Kuo says "under-display fingerprint recognition is key for full-screen designs" and doesn't believe that face-unlock systems can "fully replace fingerprint recognition".

Samsung may or may not choose to implement the sensor in 2019.

However, Synaptics' Clear ID FS9500 isn't good enough for Samsung.
