Google launches Android P developer preview with advanced features

The death of the Pixel C means Google now has no supported Android tablets. Google doesn't recommend installing Android P on your main phone, and more specifically, the company warns consumers against installing this first build at all. We are likely to see Google release the Android P public beta in the next few weeks. But the upcoming Android P release will also introduce some other enhancements, including how notifications are displayed. DP4 will follow later in the month as a release candidate for testing, and DP5 will come out in either late July or early August as a final release candidate.

To attain access to this first build of the developer preview for Android P, head over to Android Developers and download the correct system image. With Android P, developers will be able to access each stream separately or fuse them depending on what they are trying to achieve.

Second of all, there is the Multi-camera API.

Given how the smartphone "notch" isn't going away, Google is including support for cutout displays in Android P - it'll make it easier for developers to manage how a screen cutout affects an apps content.

Google will also enable simulated views to see how display notches will alter the look of your app. It must be pointed out that users should have the latest version of the app to use Google Lens. The system in Android P will restrict an app running in the background from accessing the microphone or camera, sensors which use continuous reporting mode like accelerometers and gyroscopes.

Google will be publicly talking about the new features of Android P during the I/O 2018 scheduled to kickoff on May 8th. Perhaps the most notable is official support for displays with a notch.
