Junior point guard Jon Elmore, perhaps one of the most under-appreciated players in college basketball, played the entire game and scored 27 points to leave Wichita State shocked.

WSU still had a chance, as Frankamp came up with a clutch three-pointer with 46 seconds left to cut Marshall's lead to 78-75.

The Shockers have tournament experience, share the ball beautifully and crash the glass ferociously, but they lack the defensive intensity of their past teams, and will allow the Thundering Herd to keep it close from outside. Matthews hit a go-ahead 3-pointer in overtime, and Rhode Island advanced with an 83-78 win over Oklahoma in the Midwest Region. Prediction: Alabama has a gritty team, and with a star like Sexton, they're capable of beating any team in the country.

Marshall draws up a ideal play out of the timeout to take a 80-75 lead! The Shockers ranked No. 164 nationally defending the 3-pointer, so they are vulnerable against Marshall's key offensive principle. Wichita State shot just 41.1% from the field and 33.3% (6-18) from beyond the arc in the loss.

The Thundering Herd are 12th in the nation in scoring, averaging 84.3 points per game. In the end, Marshall knocked down 9 of 23 (39.1 percent) from 3-point range, providing enough cushion to pull away late.

The Thundering Herd (24-10) held off Western Kentucky in the Conference USA tournament championship game to snap their 31-year NCAA tournament drought.
