Spring Training notebook: Aaron Judge gets a refresher on tampering

Aaron Judge knew something was up when he got a call from Brian Cashman on Wednesday night.

Earlier today the Yankees traveled to Sarasota to play the Orioles, and at some point before the game, Aaron Judge and Manny Machado chatted on the field.

Judge added: "He just kind of laughed it off".

Judge and Machado spoke before their teams played a spring exhibition Wednesday.

Ford recalls 1.4 million cars because of steering wheel
As a effect , the steering wheel "could potentially detach and lead to a loss of steering control and increased risk of a crash". USA Today found that there have been 10 incidents where Ford Fusion steering wheels have fallen off.

"I reached out to Aaron to make sure he got the full perspective, obviously clearly from Baltimore's perspective as well", Cashman said, according to the NY Post.

As for Judge, he received a phone call from NY general manager Brian Cashman to warn him about the incident.

"He's one heckuva player, and he's been doing it for quite a few years at the best level", Judge said. "They communicated to us that Mr. Judge's off the cuff comments were not appropriate and not authorized by the club", Major League Baseball wrote in its statement. But those weren't questions Judge was thinking of, as he made his pitch to Machado, hopeful they'll both wear Yankee pinstripes together for a long time.

Machado started at shortstop for the Orioles, but he was not available for comment before or after the game.

David Stockman: I hired Larry Kudlow to lower taxes, balance the budget
The president makes his own decisions, often on "gut instinct", even after getting input from advisers who go against his views. Kudlow served in the Reagan administration and has emerged as a leading proponent of tax cuts and a smaller government.

Machado is eligible for free agency after this season, part of a class that includes Bryce Harper and Josh Donaldson. Although many folks around baseball fully believe Machado is gone, Judge can't be seen "pitching" to another player to come to NY. "I asked him how he liked short and said, 'You'd look pretty good in pinstripes, too'". "Now I know. You learn something new every day". Although he has appeared in almost 800 games, only 52 of them had been spent playing shortstop prior to this season. He has homer totals of 35, 37 and 33 in the past three seasons. Gary Sanchez doubled, homered and had five RBIs.

Judge joked that he told Stanton at last year's All-Star Game in Miami he also would look good in pinstripes.

Machado-to-the-Yankees trade rumors swirled during the offseason. Now he's probably going to be one of the best defensive shortstops and what he brings on the offensive side of it, he's the complete package.

In a statement provided to The New York Daily News, the league office indicated it instructed Yankees management to impress upon Judge the inappropriate nature of his comments.
