Sixty-nine homes were destroyed in the seaside village of Tathra on the south coast of New South Wales when a fire tore through the area on Sunday.
Opposition leader Bill Shorten today visited some of the homes destroyed by fire, and said the wreckage shows how ferocious the blaze must have been.
The fires have destroyed 18 houses, killed livestock and razed farms in areas some 200 km southwest of Melbourne.
Earlier today total fire bans were issued for more than half of NSW, including the Greater Sydney region, with hot and windy conditions predicted to create unsafe conditions.
