Trump appoints Tillerson as Secretary of State with Central Intelligence Agency director Pompeo

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson was ousted Tuesday after months of strained relations with President Donald Trump, who sometimes used tweets to disparage the former Exxon Mobil CEO's efforts at worldwide diplomacy.

Trump and Tillerson have disagreed again and again since Trump took office, with Tillerson taking the moderate stance on issues from the Paris climate agreement to the Iran deal. The Secretary of State was reportedly asked Friday to return to Washington and informed he would be let go by Trump.

Replacing Pompeo at the CIA will be Gina Haspel, the deputy director of the agency, reported the Washington Post.

Mr. Trump said Mr. Pompeo's "experience in the military, Congress, and as leader of the Central Intelligence Agency have prepared him well for his new role and I urge his swift confirmation". "Congratulations to all!" A White House official said Trump wanted to have a new team in place ahead of upcoming talks with North Korea and various trade talks. Trump announced the decision on Twitter today. Both she and Pompeo will have to be confirmed by the Senate.

She also addressed her failed 2016 presidential campaign, saying that if "people were looking for a reality TV campaign, maybe I should have given them more entertainment".

The New York Times quoted sources as saying Mr Trump was irritated by Mr Tillerson's body language during meetings. "I know I will learn from them and, as President Trump set out in his State of the Union Address, work hard to ensure that 'our nation will forever be safe and strong and proud and mighty and free'".

At one point previous year, Tillerson reportedly called Trump "a moron" after a national security meeting.
