WhatsApp extends Delete for All message time limit

Since WhatsApp introduced the "Delete for Everyone" feature back in November 2017, the recipient can understand that a message has been deleted as there is a prompt in its place with the "This message has been deleted" tag. While earlier the limit was 8 minutes and 32 seconds, when it came to revoking a message from group or private chat, WhatsApp has now extended this to 1 hour, 8 minutes and 16 seconds.

That's according to some code digging by WABetaInfo, based on the latest beta version of the app for iOS.

WhatsApp only few months ago launched the Delete for everyone feature that allows users to delete any sent message on the app. The feature was spotted in Android beta, and it looks like this has been rolled out to iOS and Windows versions of the WhatsApp as well.

Earlier, when a recipient received this particular message containing the revoke request, WhatsApp checked if the ID of the message was present in the database and if the original message was found, it directly deleted it without checking any other important information.

Michigan State basketball to face Bucknell to open NCAA tournament
Michigan State will make its 21st consecutive appearance in the NCAA mens basketball tournament and their road begins in Detoit. Bucknell went 29-5 this season and won the Patriot League Tournament last week with an 83-54 win over Colgate.

WaBetaInfo reports that Facebook-owned chat company is secretly working on a feature called "Block revoke request" that would be useful in keeping a check on the misuse of Delete for Everyone feature. The instant messaging app has now, therefore, added a "Block revoke request' feature". But once, the set time has passed, there is no way to delete messages for everyone. Now, it seems that the popular messaging app is planning of rolling out another feature "Block Revoke Request". The reports also highlights that if the recipient's phone is not switched on within 24 hours, the revoke request will be considered invalid. With the new updated algorithm, WhatsApp will now delete only those messages which have been sent within 24 hours.

Recipients may see your message before it's deleted or if deletion was not successful.
