Winter storm updates: Thundersnow, NYC flights canceled, thousands without power

Meteorologists had earlier forecast that New York City would be hit with from 6 to 10 inches of snow.

NY is expected to receive up to 10 inches of snow and Philadelphia is forecast to see 3 inches to 6 inches. Thundersnow is also a possibility.

Travel is expected to be hard, if not impossible, especially for the Wednesday evening commute. "It will not be a fun time to be out on the road".

New Jersey Transit has suspended all bus service, while trains continue to run on an abbreviated schedule.

Transportation woes have spread to the wider world as well. More than 2,600 flights have been canceled Wednesday. Another 334 have been scrubbed for Thursday.

Amtrak has also modified some of its services between Washington and Boston.
