For a 10-1 team, the Mets are starting to get used to bad news. While a postgame X-ray was negative, an MRI in NY on Thursday showed a hairline fracture.

News of d'Arnaud's surgery came on the same day the Mets announced their other main catcher, Kevin Plawecki, has a hairline fracture in his left hand. A source originally told the Daily News that Plawecki would only miss a couple of weeks. He has been on the disabled list with a bruised back but is expected to return next week.

D'Arnaud's decision to have surgery comes two days after the Mets placed him on the 10-day disabled list with a partially torn ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow.

The team called up Tomas Nido, their top catching prospect, from Double-A Binghamton earlier this week, and then promoted former Nationals catcher Jose Lobaton from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday. He'll now miss the remainder of the 2018 campaign and a majority of next season. He was added to the 40-man roster as the corresponding move to d'Arnaud going on the 60-day DL. Lobaton is batting eighth against right-hander Zach Davies.
