"From April 21, North Korea will stop nuclear tests and launches of intercontinental ballistic missiles", Korean Central New Agency said.

"The North will shut down a nuclear test site in the country's northern side to prove the vow to suspend nuclear test".

The decision was made in a meeting of the ruling party's full Central Committee, which had convened to discuss a "new stage" of policies.

North Korea has reportedly agreed to the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, pleasing the Trump administration, but there may be a disconnect when it comes to what exactly this means, North Korean state media reports indicate.

South Korea's president said Thursday that North Korea is not imposing conditions on upcoming summits with him and U.S. President Donald Trump.

"Just because North Korea is responding to dialogue, there should be no reward".

Although it remains unclear when and where the summit will take place, Trump spent much of his two-day conference here with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe this week boasting about the historic moment and ruminating on what could be achieved. "And the DPRK will join worldwide efforts and efforts to halt the nuclear test altogether".

In the same address, he said he had a nuclear button on his desk, prompting Trump to tweet that he had a bigger one of his own.

President Moon said Thursday that North Korea has voiced a willingness for "complete denuclearization" and does not attach conditions that the USA can not accept, such as the withdrawal of US forces stationed in South Korea. North Korea's nuclear weapons, he stressed, were a "precious fruition" for defending the sovereignty of the country from the "nuclear threats of the USA imperialists".

The comments come ahead of his planned meeting next week with South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

The US president's secretary of state nominee, Mike Pompeo, made a secret trip to North Korea during Easter weekend to lay the groundwork for the meeting between Trump and Kim Jong Un.

In early March, Kim met with Moon's envoys in Pyongyang.

The idea of installing a direct line between the nations' leaders was initially circulated at the first Korean summit in 2000, and Moon's "Sunshine policy" to ease relations with the North already relies on telephone diplomacy.
