Plane passenger dilemma: Protect child or try to save victim

By the time Southwest wrote that letter, the engine's manufacturer, CFM International, had already issued a bulletin, in June 2017, recommending the ultrasonic inspections for engines with 15,000 cycles.

Southwest Airlines sought more time past year to inspect its engines after a similar explosion to the one that saw a woman partially sucked out of a plane window, it has emerged.

In 2016, US officials also blamed metal fatigue on a similar engine failure on another Southwest Airlines plane in Florida.

"I've never seen two people give everything they had, the way those two men did, to make sure she came in and was safely with us", said Mackey.

The flight from Dallas to NY was forced to make an emergency landing in Philadelphia after an explosion in the left engine sent shrapnel flying through a window, killing 43-year-old bank executive Jennifer Riordan. Shrapnel from the engine smashed a window, setting off a desperate scramble to save a woman from being sucked out on Tuesday (local time). She later died of her injuries.

FIR filed against BJP candidate for exploiting religious
Karnataka is the only state in South India where BJP has tasted power when the party won in the 2008 Assembly elections. This is not the first time that Sanjay Patil, who is MLA from Belagavi Rural has landed into controversy.

While passengers were able to pull Riordan back into the plane, another passenger was said to have felt "severe pressure" after positioning his back against the opening in the cabin in an attempt to seal it.

His wife Stephanie said she wasn't surprised by her husband's actions.

Needum and registered nurse Peggy Phillips attempted CPR for about 20 minutes but were unable to revive her due to massive head trauma.

Needum declined to detail his rescue efforts out of respect for Riordan's family. 'Psychologically, I think there's a lot going on'. In the Southwest Airlines incident, the instructors said, the pilot did an incredible job staying calm and landing the plane so first responders could come and get everyone off.

Officials say Jennifer Riordan of Albuquerque, New Mexico, died after the plane heading from New York's LaGuardia Airport to Dallas made an emergency landing Tuesday in Philadelphia.

A preliminary investigation into the accident found that a fan blade inside of the Boeing's 737's left engine snapped while the jet was flying at 500 miles per hour above Pennsylvania.

On Tuesday, an engine on the Southwest Airlines plane blew apart, showering the aircraft with debris and shattering a window. According to a report by Reuters, the airline told the FAA that it would need an additional six months to complete the inspection process. It is something the FAA proposed making mandatory almost a year ago, but the draft directive was never approved.

The FAA said late Wednesday that some 220 CFM56-7B engines, used to power Boeing 737s, must be ultrasonically inspected after a certain number of takeoffs and landings, according to The Associated Press. "It was on the interior part of the fan blade [and was] certainly not detectable from looking at it from the outside".

It's unclear why the left engine of the flight malfunctioned when the plane was over 32,000 feet. Last year, the FAA estimated that an order would cover 220 engines on USA airlines.

However that number could be higher now because more engines have hit the number of flights triggering an inspection. Southwest now operates a fleet of over 700 aircraft, all with the impacted engines.

The Egyptian participated in 19 occasions with Chelsea scoring twice and one goal was against Arsenal in the London Derby. In terms of prestige, surely being champions of Europe trumps merely being number one in England alone.

There are several types of inspections that airline planes must go through, ranging from an "A check", which is done about every eight to 10 weeks, to more-rigorous B, C and D checks.
