Police investigate death of 7-month-old Kansas girl

It was a routine call that would change his life.

Const. Ian Jordan was involved in an accident on September 22, 1987, as he responded to a possible break-and-enter on Fort Street.

Chief Const. Del Manak visited Jordan in hospital regularly, and his room was updated with a plaque previous year. On Wednesday night, he died.

The family - two parents and two children - was traveling to San Jose last week when they stopped communicating with relatives. Sheriff deputies and the California Highway Patrol have been working since last week to locate and recover the vehicle.

As officers rushed to the scene, Jordan's vehicle crashed into another Victoria police auto at the intersection of Douglas and Fisgard streets.

Jordan was 35-years-old at the time of the crash. Retired Sgt. Ole Jorgensen, the other responding officer and a close friend of Jordan's, suffered a serious leg injury in the crash. Heath declined to release the preliminary results of that autopsy but said her death is suspicious.

"Is he dead?" she remembers asking.
