Documentary filmmaker Jennifer Jarosik, who accused Russell Simmons of raping her in 2016, has dropped her lawsuit against him. "Dismissal with prejudice is a final judgment and the case becomes res judicata on the claims that were or could have been brought in it". Since this was presented, the case was dismissed "with prejudice" which means that the lawsuit can not be refiled.

Simmons vociferously denied Jarosik's claims at the time, and earlier in April filed an answer to the lawsuit that asserted their interactions and relationship were consensual. Simmons went on to allege that Jarosik had sent unsolicited nude photos to him and the two had friendly conversations over text message for a lengthy period after the alleged rape. One woman who made such a claim and filed a lawsuit seeking $5 million in damages saw her case dismissed, which sometimes signals something was worked out behind doors. Simmons had denied the allegations. Additionally, Simmon's lawyer argues that the alleged assault is invalid because it is outside of the statue of limitations.
