Russia 'severely condemns' attack on Syria

In a speech last month, he publicly called Russian interference in the 2016 USA election "an attack on the American Constitution", and said the US should respond to it very disproportionately "in cyberspace and elsewhere".

None of the missiles fired by the United States and its allies were routed through the Russian air defense zone in Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement Saturday, after multinational forces hammered select targets in Syria.

Russian Federation has been a staunch ally of Syrian President Bashar Assad's government and has helped turn the tide of war in his favor since entering the conflict in September 2015.

He said the analysis was done at the request of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons.

Moscow said none of the missiles hit its Hmeimim airbase or its naval facility at Tartus adding that it did not activate its own sophisticated air defence systems.

Russia's defence ministry went further, claiming it has evidence that Britain worked with the volunteer rescue force, the White Helmets, to fake the attack.

During a phone call late on Thursday, UK Prime Minister Theresa May and US President Donald Trump agreed on the need to deter chemical weapon use in Syria.

Noting that Trump extended "an olive branch" to both Russian Federation and Iran in his speech, Taleblu added that "the question for the United States and the coalition is how long are they prepared to sustain this", he asked. Moscow warned against any strikes and threatened to retaliate.

President Donald Trump is pressing for a more aggressive USA strike against Syria than military chiefs have recommended as he adopts a tougher stance against Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose support for Syria's government has allowed it to crush opposition forces, US officials said.

"Russia had a choice - either to risk and respond militarily, which is very unsafe because you can lose, or what is happening now".

Communication on the line is a near-daily occurrence created to stop mishaps as a US-led coalition conducts an air war against the Islamic State group while Russian Federation pursues its own goals of propping up Assad.
