Snap, the parent company of Snapchat, confirmed with Business Insider on Tuesday that it's begun testing a new design for the app that would walk back some of the biggest changes since the original redesign dropped in February. This new system will consist of unskippable, six-seconds-long ads which the users will be forced to watch before they reach their favorite content. In this testing period, users will be spared from these commercials on the Discover feed and people's Stories section.
Snapchat now inserts ads throughout in-app content, but the ads are skippable and a study found that at least 69 percent of Snapchat users nearly always skip advertisements in Snapchat. The ads will not appear in user-generated content like Stories and magazine-style Discover editions, though those will still continue to feature skippable ads. The likely start date of the tests is 15 May.
