Nikki Haley, the US Ambassador to the United Nations, indicated the sanctions would be aimed at sending a message to Russian Federation, which she said has blocked six attempts by the UN Security Council to make it easier to investigate the use of chemical weapons.
On CBS's "Face the Nation", Haley said the Treasury Department will announce the new sanctions and insisted the U.S. has sent "a strong message" about the use of chemical weapons.
"We're evaluating, but nothing to announce right now", press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Monday afternoon.
