American network NBC confirmed on Saturday that it had picked up the show for its sixth season on Twitter, with a gif showing Samberg's character Jake Peralta smiling and saying one of his catchphrases, "Noice".

Executive producer Dan Goor announced on Twitter that the beloved comedy, which aired for five seasons on Fox, has escaped cancellation. Meanwhile, Hamill stated, "I'm SO not ready to say #ByeBye99 ... when networks dump shows I love, I'm known for holding grudges a long, L-O-N-G time".

It's later premiere date isn't anywhere near as much of a surprise for many different reasons, including that NBC probably didn't even know they were picking this show up until a matter of days ago.
