There has been no slowdown in damaging headlines for Pruitt since then, including revelations from the EPA's inspector general this week that Pruitt requested and received 24-hour security beginning his first day in office. John Barrasso (R-WY) has expressed concerns over Pruitt's use of private email accounts, which previous heads of the EPA have done for daily communication with staff, according to Politico.

Pruitt is underneath a number of investigations into the price of his safety element, journey, pay raises for aides, alleged retaliation in opposition to whistleblowers, and his time renting a rental in a Capitol Hill townhouse related to lobbyists.

Pruitt repeated the claim that the extraordinary spending on his personal security was needed because the threats against him have been "unprecedented in terms of quantity and type".
