MacBook Keyboard Not Working? Apple Sued as Users Face 'Defective' Laptops

It now faces a class action lawsuit issued in California, which states that the company knew there were problems with the latest butterfly-switch keyboard design and went ahead with it anyway.

According to a recent report, it was revealed that Apple's use of the new butterfly mechanism on its 2016 MacBook Pro keyboards are failing at twice the rate compared to the previous design.

Flatter keyboards were first introduced on the 12-inch MacBook in 2015.

The "butterfly" mechanism replaced the older "scissor" mechanism, which is still used by the majority of laptop keyboards, and was meant to make the keys more stable and responsive when pressed.

Extreme weather in India has killed 61 people in a day
A woman standing under a tree in Kannauj was killed as it fell on her while two persons have been reported dead from Barabanki. In the wake of this massive storm, flight movement at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport has been put on hold.

To further add to the problems of unlucky owners of MacBooks with faulty keyboards, Apple's solution to the problem is two-fold.

In 2015 Apple presented another key switch system that enabled it to create a console considerably more slender and with a littler measure of movement. Users also complained that the problem persists even after fix.

The second is, Kyle Barbaro, who suffered through a similar situation with his 2016 MacBook Pro when his space bar and caps lock keys were rendered useless.

Customer complaints about the keyboard can be found in long threads on Reddit and ycombinator. If the MacBook or MacBook Pro is under warranty, then the cost of the fix is free. Whatever was tweaked by Apple did not seem to solve any of the issues as a petition calling for the recall of these defective Macbooks reached 17,000 signatures in just one week. For users out of warranty, the top case costs $350 for the MacBook, and $700 for the MacBook Pro, according to The Outline's Casey Johnson, who claimed "The New MacBook Keyboard is Ruining My Life".

After numerous complaints from consumers, Apple finally responded to the defects with an online guide for cleaning the keyboard with compressed air.

Apple has its fair share of product malfunctions, but the reported problems with the keyboard for the MacBook Pro have landed the tech company in court.

That petition - which cites among others the highly regarded writer and UI designer John Gruber, who has called the keyboard "one of the biggest design screwups in Apple history" - is gaining steam again today, presumably fueled by this new lawsuit. "[Apple should] return to Plaintiffs and Class members all costs attributable to remedying or replacing defective MacBook laptops, including but not limited to economic losses from the purchase of replacement laptops".
