Memorial Day is Monday, May 28, a time to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to serve and protect this country.

On Monday, Memorial Day the Veteran will meet at 8:00-8:15 a.m.at the Maynard Community Hall to prepare for the days services.

10 a.m. - Miller Yard, Burketville.

Following the laying of the wreath and taps, Trail Life of United States of America will conduct a flag retirement ceremony.

The event is free, open to the public, and suitable for all ages and abilities.

The Wings Over the Rockies Museum will be honoring veterans from all military branches by placing commemorative bricks in its Runway of Honor under the B-52. The parade starts at Fifth Street and Broadway and ends at 32nd Street and Broadway. "Taps" will also be played, and a "salute to the dead" will be held. The event is rain or shine.

The Pennsylvania State Mounted Police will lead the parade, which begins at 10 a.m. Monday near the American Legion and marches through Beech Creek, stopping on the bridge for a Memorial Day ceremony before continuing through Blanchard.

Service: 9 a.m., Historic Summit Church, Utica Ridge Road and Blackhawk Trail, Davenport. Refreshments will be provided and served at the firehouse after the parade.

The cemetery is located at 1225 Fairview Cemetery Road in Columbia Falls.

MEMORIAL DAY SERVICE, 9:30 a.m., Alden-Hebron High School Gym, 9604 Illinois St., Hebron.

A Memorial Mass will take place on the cemetery grounds at 4 p.m.

The procession should take about 30 minutes, arriving at River Hills around 2 p.m.

A Memorial Day Celebration will be held at Hudson Memorial Park in Hudson, Colorado. The Rev. Kyle Winter will then officiate the ceremony itself at 2 p.m.

As I grew older, I learned Memorial Day is a national holiday set aside to honor military service members who died fighting in a war.

Following the park service, an open house is held at the VFW Post Home on Railroad Avenue.
