Rachel Dolezal, the former NAACP chapter leader, and transracial activist is facing a felony theft charge after allegedly making false statements to secure welfare assistance.

An investigator at the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) Fraud office heard that Diallo had recently published a book 'In Full Color, ' in a deal reportedly worth between $10,000 to $20,000.

Court documents allege Dolezal, who has legally changed her name to Nkechi Diallo, illegally received $8,747 in food assistance and $100 in child care assistance starting in August 2015 up until November 2017.

Yep. She was getting welfare. She faces 15 years in prison.

In total, between August 2015 and September 2017, Dolezal's bank statements showed she had deposited almost $84,000, documents said.

According to court documents, the investigation began when a DSHS criminal investigator reviewed her records and found that she had been reporting her only source of income as $300 per month in gifts from friends.

But court documents showed she made almost $84,000 between August 2015 and September 2017 without reporting it, according to KHQ.

In 2017, Dolezal told The Associated Press that she still identifies as black, despite being "Caucasian biologically".

Local reporters who went to her Spokane home seeking comment said she declined to say anything and closed the door.

They say she told investigators she "fully disclosed her information".

While she claims she had fallen on hard times after the scandal that made her a household name also made her unemployable, Dolezal was apparently still benefiting from public assistance even after things had turned around for her financially. In addition, the Department requests Nkechi Diallo be disqualified from receiving Food Assistance for at least a 12 month period for breaking a Food Assistance rule on goal.
