Senate files appeal against judgemnet nullifying Omo-Agege's suspension

The joint Senate and House of Representatives ad hoc committee investigating the invasion of the Senate's chamber and the snatching of its mace has invited senators Ovie Omo-Agege and Ali Ndume.

Strengthening of security arrangement at the complex, especially around the Senate Chambers is to forestall likely security breach as recorded on April 18, when some hoodlums stormed the chambers and made away with the Mace.

The invaders ran out of the chamber and left the National Assembly in a convoy of four vehicles with the mace.

Asked if he would drag the security agencies to court, Omo-Agege said, "I know what to do, and they know that I know what to do".

Omo-Agege in a statement issued by his media office in Abuja on Monday, said: "The congress has come and gone".

Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the court had nullified the suspension of Mr Omo-Agege last week Thursday, saying that the Senate's decision regarding the suspension, as well as the pattern adopted by the National Assembly, was constitutionally defective.

On Ndume, he said, "Based on the testimony by the sergeant-at-arms before the committee, you are alleged to have prevented the mace keeper from taking away the mace to safety".

"The committee has, therefore, deemed it necessary to invite you in order to respond to that allegation".

Mr Omo-Agege was expected to resume plenary and other legislative duties on Tuesday after a federal high court last week quashed his suspension from the Senate.

The faction was said to have planned to conduct parallel congress at the residence of the late Senator Spanner Okpozo, before they were attacked.In Ughelli, Udu, Sapele, Uviwe, local government areas, as well as in Delta Central and Aniocha North, Agbor, the congress were said to be peaceful.Meanwhile, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has assured the governorship aspirants in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of credible primaries in the state.

However, Chief Executive Officer Ivan Gazidis and director Josh Kroenke, son of Stan, has backed Arteta to steer the club in the right direction.

"The committee, in pursuance of this, has deemed it necessary to formally invite you to respond to these allegations on Wednesday, May 16 at 11:00am", Na'Allah read out the format of the letter to be issued to the summoned lawmakers.

The matter was referred to the Committee on Ethics and Privileges to investigate which recommended 181 days of suspension.

He stated that there was no official communication from the management to the SSS directing them to stop the suspended senator from entering the National Assembly following his suspension.

Omo-Agege, however said that the appeal would not stop his resumption.
