Solo Showdown Limited Time Mode Announced

The new Solo Showdown Limited-Time Mode that went live today trades the usual rules tweaks (like letting you play as Thanos) for a meta-game competition to see who can play the best across 50 rounds. After that, Epic will tally the results for each players' first 50 Solo Showdown matches (you must play at least 50 to qualify and any match results after that won't affect your ranking).

Unlike other Limited Time Modes that have previously been added to the game, Solo Showdown "will not change core gameplay of the current Solo mode", says Epic. If you're placed 51 through 100, you'll get 7,500, which will normally set you back $60. That's right, the players who top the leaderboards by the end of the event will get a share of a big prize pot.

Trump on FBI Spying on Campaign: Bigger Than Watergate

Solo Showdown simply acts as a sort of competitive mode in Fortnite Battle Royale. Under Playlists, you'll even find past limited time modes such as 50 vs 50, Solid Gold and so on. Cumulative scores will then be generated from across the player's' 50 matches. First place will earn themselves a cool 50,000 V-Bucks.

As you can probably guess from the name, Solo Showdown will be an every-man-for-himself mode that's inaccessible to players queuing as duos or squads.

Steven Gerrard ready to splash out on Premier League legend
Steven Gerrard is unveiled as the new manager of Rangers football Club at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland. Canadian midfielder Scott Arfield and goalkeeper Allan McGregor are Gerrard's first two signings for the Scottish giants.

The new Fortnite Solo Showdown mode is available to play now, and won't be disappearing until May 21. The best player will take away 50,000 V-Bucks, the game's currency for cosmetic items, and other top-100 finishers will claim virtual prizes too.

Announcing the mode, Epic Games said it's "using the Solo Showdown as a one-off stepping stone to learn how to build great events for all types of players", and promised a "major announcement about competitive play next week". You can check out all the scoring and full list of rules over on Epic Games' site here.
