YouTube launches subscription music service, renames Red YouTube Premium

Existing Google Play Music subscribers will get a YouTube Music Premium membership as part of their subscription each month.

YouTube Music, which will be launched on May 22, comes with extra features like personalized playlists based on individual's YouTube history and other usage patterns, YouTube, owned by Alphabet Inc's Google, said. It costs $11.99 for new customers and includes YouTube Music Premium. YouTube will also be expanding its lineup of original content, like the recently released "Cobra Kai", and Premium users will get access to all of the new content. YouTube Premium will also feature content like "Step Up: High Water", and upcoming series like the sci-fi thriller "Impulse", as well as Liza Koshy's "Liza on Demand". There will be other "bells and whistles", but there's no word on what those might be just yet.

YouTube is set to launch "YouTube Premium" this month, the new service will also serve as a rebranding for Google's YouTube Red service.
