First lady Melania Trump makes surprise visit to US-Mexico border


The surprise touchdown in Texas was "100 percent" the First Lady's idea, according to Stephanie Grisham, the first lady's communications director.

The First Lady is scheduled to tour two law enforcement facilities in McAllen Texas - The Ursula Border Patrol Processing Center and a Customs and Border Patrol/DHS intake center.

Grisham said that the first lady had the full backing of her husband. She was told the children there, most of whom are between the ages of 12 and 17, are usually "distraught" when they first enter. He told reporters Thursday, Melania went to the border because she's been bothered by what's going on there.

Grisham released a statement last weekend saying the first lady "hates" to see children separated from their families and "believes we need to be a country that follows all laws, but also a country that governs with heart".

"She wants to see what's happening for herself and she wants to lend her support, executive order or not". She told children to "be kind and nice to each other" as she left for another classroom.
