Hanley Ramirez involved in federal investigation

Major League Baseball had no comment on the report.

Former Red Sox first baseman Hanley Ramirez is reportedly being "eyed" in an ongoing federal and state investigation, per Michele McPhee of ABC News.

McPhee explained in an interview with the station that a drug trafficking suspect Facetimed Ramirez during a traffic stop which ended with the seizure of "a significant amount of drugs". The friend grew up in the Dominican Republic with Ramirez. However, Ramirez cooperated with police and it became clear he was unaware of what was happening.

The friend told police that a box in his vehicle contained books that belonged to Ramirez, who told the officers that the box was not his and they were free to open it. The suspect in the police stop alleges to know Ramirez, she said, but Ramirez was not with him in the auto.
