Kim Jong Un goes for surprise nighttime walk ahead of summit

That's a sign he's confident about his grip on power back home.

Kim's summit with Trump has captured intense global attention after a turn to diplomacy in recent months after serious fears of war past year amid North Korean nuclear and missile tests.

Singapore Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan (Bal-a-krish-nan) says Kim went to the Flower Dome at Gardens by the Bay in Singapore on Monday night.

But after Mr. Trump left the summit he announced he was pulling out of the statement, citing statements by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at a post-summer press conference, where Mr. Trudeau said Canada had been "insulted" by Mr. Trump justifying his tariffs on national-security grounds.

Trump advisers slam Trudeau's 'betrayal' days before Kim summit
Merkel shared a photo on Saturday and captioned it: "Day two of the G7 summit in Canada: a spontaneous meeting between two working sessions".

If things fall apart, it could be because "Trump presents Kim with a hard-and-fast binary choice: relinquish nuclear weapons and live in peace and prosperity, or cling to them and risk the impoverishment of your people and the safety of your regime", Haas said.

Earlier in May, North Korea, too, had threatened to cancel the meeting in protest against the joint military exercise the USA had conducted with South Korea.

Kim and President Trump arrived in Singapore on Sunday ahead of Tuesday's historic summit. Trump had earlier tweeted about "excitement in the air!" Technically, the United States and North Korea remain in a state of war.

The story was reported the front page of the ruling party's newspaper and was the only item on Monday's first news broadcast on Korean Central Television, which for many in the North is the only channel available.

Kim, Trump arrive in Singapore for landmark summit
We are where we are because Mr Trump has taken a sword and sliced his way through conventional diplomatic behaviour. The US president hopes the summit will kick-start a process that eventually sees Mr Kim give up nuclear weapons.

While President Trump has spoken positively about the upcoming summit, he has been vague on details of what they might be able to actually achieve.

Trump on Monday while meeting with Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong predicted that his upcoming meeting with Kim will "work out very nicely". "To all Americans and the rest of the world I'm honored to call President Trump a friend", he said.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's Twitter feed was busy during the first day of the summit, sharing photos of different meetings. But on the eve of the summit, he altered his schedule, opting to return at about 8 p.m. on Tuesday after a full day of meetings with Kim - nearly 15 hours earlier than previously anticipated. Considering Trump has admitted that he hasn't prepared for this upcoming meeting, he will need to rely on his alleged "best negotiator" skills to get the job done.

Kim is expected to stay at the St Regis hotel and Trump at the Shangri-La, both in the Tanglin area in downtown Singapore.

Trump made the comments in tweets from Air Force One as he headed to Singapore for his summit with North Korea's Kim Jong Un . Later, the document was made public. "As Canadians we are polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around".

"Our eyes are wide open with respect to the risks, but it is our fervent hope that chairman Kim wants to make a strategic change", he said. And he won't have that opportunity again.
